     Application Deadline Approaching

Dear Colleague,

I am writing to ask for your assistance in spreading the word for Perimeter
Scholars International (PSI), the innovative new Master?s course in
Theoretical Physics held at the Perimeter Institute, Waterloo, Canada.

We are nearing the application deadline for the recruitment of our second
class of students, who will commence their studies in August 2010.    The
due date for applications is February 1st 2010, so you may wish to bring
this to the attention of exceptional, highly motivated students in your
department. We particularly encourage applications from qualified women. Key
details appear below and additional information - including a new video of
this year?s PSI students - is available to view at
www.perimeterscholars.org

Thank you in advance for sharing this news with students who may be
interested.

With best wishes,
Neil Turok
Director
Perimeter Institute

About Perimeter Scholars International (PSI):

Perimeter Scholars International (PSI) is a 10-month intensive Master?s
level course held at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, a leading
international research centre in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. PSI is designed
to prepare outstanding students from around the world for cutting edge
research by exposing them to the full spectrum of theoretical physics.
Graduates receive a Master?s Degree in Physics from the University of
Waterloo and a Perimeter Scholars International Certificate from Perimeter
Institute.

PSI is focused on developing each student?s potential to the full, rather
than emphasizing marks or exams. Problem-solving skills are developed daily,
with students working in groups and individually. The goal is to impart the
knowledge, rigour, and intellectual independence needed to set them on a
path as future researchers. Courses are taught, two or three at a time, in
three week modules by top international lecturers. This year?s lecturers
include Nima Arkani-Hamed, Sue Coppersmith, Ruth Gregory, Leo Kadanoff,
Michael Peskin, and Xiao-Gang Wen, to name just a few, in addition to
resident Perimeter Institute faculty. These leading scientists from all over
the world bring their particular expertise, teaching what is closest to
their hearts intensively. We have been exhilarated by the brilliance of the
lectures, which you are invited to view for yourself at
http://pirsa.org/C09021  (please allow a few moments for this page to load).
In addition to the rotating cast of lecturers, we have excellent dedicated
professional tutors who guide the course and provide continuity.

The 2009-2010 Faculty include:

Ben Allanach - Cambridge University
Philip Anderson - Princeton University
Nima Arkani-Hamed - Institute for Advanced Study
Katrin Becker - Texas A&M University
Melanie Becker - Texas A&M University
Carl Bender - Washington University
Freddy Cachazo - Perimeter Institute
Matt Choptuik - University of British Columbia
Sue Coppersmith - University Wisconsin at Madison

Xiao-Gang Wen - MIT

Applying to PSI:

Exceptional students with an undergraduate honours degree in Physics, Math,
Engineering or Computer Science are encouraged to apply. Students require a
minimum of 3 upper level undergraduate or graduate courses in physics. PSI
recruits a diverse group of students and especially encourages applications
from qualified women candidates.

All students accepted receive full financial support for the entire program,
covering all tuition, living expenses, and transportation. The due date for
applications to PSI is February 1st, 2010. Complete details and application
form are available at http:// www.perimeterscholars.org/ .
