PhD position in theoretical materials research

From: Duc Nguyen

Dear all,
In my opinion, the forwarded PhD position is a good one in term of scientific project as well as its supervision. I also know people from Christian Elsaesser group quite well as they are the co-authors of my last PRL paper. In case any one from VTMG
group are interested in this position, please let me know. I would be happy to introduce/act as a reference for his/her application.

Kind regards

Message: The Freiburg Materials Research Center (FMF) of the Albert-Ludwig
University in Freiburg is offering a position for a PhD work in theoretical materials research The FMF is conducting both experimental and theoretical research on “Interfaces between crystalline Silicon and oxidic passivation layers” within a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
The task of this project is the development of functional surface
passivation layers for backsides of crystalline Silicon solar cells.
Cooperation partners of the FMF are the Institute for Physical
Chemistry I of the University of Freiburg and the Fraunhofer
Institutes for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) and for Mechanics of
Materials (IWM) in Freiburg. For theoretical understanding of properties of electronic states and
atomistic structures at such interfaces the FMF, cooperating with the
Fraunhofer IWM, is conducting first-principles calculations based on
density functional theory which shall serve for better interpretation
of the experimental results. For this theoretical task as a PhD work
the FMF is looking for a Physicist or Chemist. As an applicant, you have got an academic Diploma or Master degree in
Physics or Chemistry which entitles you for PhD admission at the
University of Freiburg. You are well trained and skilled in scientific
research, highly interested and perhaps already a bit experienced in
theoretical solid-state physics and numerical computer simulation, and
motivated to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team. The conditions of employment and salary will be according to the
regulations for German federal states (TV-L). The contract duration
for this PhD position (E13, 75%) will be initially 2 years, with
possibility for a later extension.
Are you interested?
Please send your application (CV with certificates
of academic degrees and grades) to Prof. Dr. Christian Elsässer: christian.elsaesser[at]
If you have questions regarding this open position, please contact Prof. Elsässer.
